A Face in the Crowd

As I'm sure most people do, I generally take the same route to and from work on a daily basis. Going to work, I don't ever notice passing the same people on the road. On the way home from work however, without fail, I pass the same people. How do I know they're the same people? Well, the one woman I pass on the way home drives a white Volvo with an Arizona state flag license plate on the front of her car. The other person I notice is a young guy that drives a Honda with some phrase across the top of the windshield. You'd think I'd know what the phrase is, but can't remember it right now.

So, I got to thinking, I wonder if these people notice that I pass them on a daily basis. Or am I (or my car) that non-descript that I go unnoticed every day?

It's funny how you notice others, while going unnoticed or how another may go unnoticed but they're noticing you. I met a significant person in my life that way. Found out after we had started dating that he had been noticing me for quite some time. But I didn't even know he existed. Well, until that weekend he left a note on my car. I finally was able to put a face to the mystery man, because he knew my schedule well enough to be very non-chalantly waiting in the parking lot for me when I got home one day.

He may well be reading this post and thinking "oh, now everyone thinks I'm a stalker."

In time, we also found out that we used to hang out at some of the same places and very well may have been there at the same time. One of my friends and her husband figured out through their childhood Santa pictures that they were probably in line waiting to sit on Santa's knee at the same time. Wouldn't it be interesting to be able to go back to a specific time to see if in fact, prior to knowing one another that your paths had crossed? I've often thought of taking that idea and writing a story about it. Nobody steal my idea...that's the one good idea I have for a story. Maybe one day I'll write about it.

P.S. Mystery Man--He's not a stalker.

I love this thought/idea, Carn...

As for the stalker... I think typically, they're not considered a stalker if a) you like them and b) they're cute :)

I know something similar has happened to me. I once started dating a girl who, I later found out, was rooming with one of my friends's best friend. Even my office mate knows many people in my family, but had no idea I was related, because they are on my mom's side and the last name is different.

I got picked up hitch hiking by a girl and looked for her car for the longest time. Sha had a crystal teddy bear on her mirror, and a Blaupunkd (sp?) stereo. Butr I didn't notice what kind of car it was.
Being noticed depends a lot on your car. A plain small white car is invisible here, unless you have stickers on it or something.
Also, I have left notes on girls's cars before too.

wow, i never thought about that.. of the same people noticing us as we see them on our daily travels.
I usually pass a guy in an Jeep once in a whle on the way TO work, and we usually just nod and smile at each other. It's weird, he's the "guy in the jeep" friend, whom I've never met, wonder if I ever will? lol

you want wierd? i went with my father to buy a new cat in a neighboring town of lakeland. the people who lived there were kind.(i was 9.) i lost my kite at daytona beach and chased it down in the yard of a house just off the intercoastal waterway, and the people who lived there were kind. (i was 12.) almost thirty five years later i met a woman who had come from 1500 miles away to visit her mom in the hospital, who's room was right next to my mom's room. all three incidents had both of us there at the same time.

she's there all the time now. i finally got smart.
